Pohnpei's aquatic community came alive with fervor as the Pohnpei Swimming Club hosted its first meet of the year on March 15 and 16, 2024. Swimmers from around the island, including representatives from the Pohnpei Swimming Club, U Municipal Team, and Kitti Municipal Team, gathered at the local pool to compete in a display of talent and sportsmanship. Approximately 50 swimmers took to the waters, each vying for victory in their respective categories.

Among the notable achievers was Melinda Moya of Kitti, whose exceptional skill in the 12 and under Girls division saw her clinch first place in all 11 of her events, accompanied by impressive drops in time across the board. Benjamin Haigh of the Pohnpei Swimming Club demonstrated his dominance in the 12 and under Boys division, securing first place in 5 out of 9 events while consistently improving his times with each race.
In the 13 and over categories, Katrianne Kihleng of U emerged as the leading force in the Women's division, claiming victory in all 9 of her events. Meanwhile, Katerson Moya demonstrated his dominance in the Men's division, finishing first place in 8 out of 11 events, solidifying his status as a formidable competitor.
In addition to celebrating the achievements of the swimmers, Pohnpei Swimming Club would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated volunteers who generously contributed their time and efforts to ensure the smooth operation of the event. The invaluable assistance provided by these volunteers, particularly in the crucial task of timing, played a pivotal role in the overall success of the meet. On behalf of the organizing committee and the entire swimming community, we extend our sincerest gratitude to all the volunteers for their invaluable support and unwavering commitment. It is their collective efforts that truly made this event a resounding success.
Reflecting on the success of the event, the Pohnpei Swimming Club would like to extend an invitation to all individuals interested in joining, regardless of skill level. The club offers specialized training programs tailored to various proficiency levels. With a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment, the club also offers a Learn To Swim program catering to beginners seeking to enhance their aquatic abilities.
Looking ahead, a contingent of talented swimmers from the Pohnpei Swimming Club is set to embark on an exciting journey as part of Team FSM to the Oceania Swimming Championships in Gold Coast, Australia. Serving as the final Olympic qualifying competition for the Oceania region, the event holds immense significance for aspiring athletes. In light of this endeavor, the club encourages community support and invites individuals to contribute towards funding efforts for the participating athletes.
